GREENVILLE, N.C. — More than 100 volunteers overcame wet conditions to help plant trees along Greenville's newest section of greenway during a Community Tree Day event held Saturday at Phase II of the Greens Mill Run Greenway.

The newest section of greenway runs from Charles Boulevard at Sulgrave Road to Evans Street near Clifton Street. The greenway will be formally opened to the public during a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 22 at 4 p.m.

During Saturday's event, the City teamed with ReLeaf of Greenville and East Carolina University for the 8th Annual Community Tree Day. Volunteers from the City, ReLeaf, ECU, and a variety of civic groups planted more than 100 trees along the greenway despite a steady rain throughout the day.

Redbud, dogwood, maple, pine, and cypress trees were among those planted. Donations made the day possible with Carolina Seasons Nursery donating 64 trees and the Noon Rotary Club providing a $750 grant.
