GREENVILLE, N.C. - The first ever Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the City of Greenville has earned it the Government Financial Officers Association's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.

Released in December 2016, the City of Greenville PAFR is a 24-page document that breaks down the City's finances for the 2015-16 fiscal year in a user-friendly format. The GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards of preparation of state and local government popular reports. In order to receive the award, a government unit must publish a PAFR with contents that conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal. The award is valid for a period of one year.

Reviewers of the PAFR commented favorably on the design and layout of Greenville's report, noting that the use of colorful photographs, charts, and graphs added visual interest and appeals to readers. They particularly liked the use of graphics throughout as an innovative way for the City to convey information to readers. Reviewers also commented that the report contains a variety of useful information that allows readers to gain a greater understanding of the City, such as demographics, population, unemployment rates, major industries, and major employers.

An electronic version of the PAFR is available HERE. Hard copies of the report are available at City Hall, 200 West Fifth Street.
