While three teams won Greenville Fire-Rescue's annual Pullin' for Pink event on Sunday, the real winners were the cancer patients and survivors in the area.

The event, part of the Pink Heals Tour, is the second year the pink fire trucks have come to town to raise money and awareness for those battling cancer, cancer survivors, and their families. Lemonade stand was the cancer support network chosen to benefit from the money raised. All money raised from the event goes directly to the groups helped and the overhead to maintain the Pink Heals Tour, not to any salaries.

Several hundred people lined West 5th Street in front of the Fire-Rescue headquarters to witness the competition, but thaPulling for Pinkt was only part of the event. Earlier in the day, the Pink Heals Tour brought the pink fire engine, along with several other emergency vehicles, to a local woman who is battling cancer to let her know she is not alone in her fight.

The pink truck is covered with the signatures of and words of hope and wisdom from hundreds of others who are battling cancer, are survivors, or have lost their fight against cancer. The hope is that showing cancer patients that they are not alone will help encourage them to keep up the fight.

This is the second year Greenville Fire-Rescue has hosted the event. The events have raised nearly $10,000 to help local groups support women who are battling cancer.
