City Saves Trees During Expansion Project

We all know that trees help provide a better life for all. Now the City of Greenville is providing new life for a bunch of treesTree Relocation at the Convention Center by saving them from the chainsaw. The trees were originally planted at the Convention Center nearly 14 years ago in the area where the Center’s expansion is just starting to take place.

The 20-25 feet tall Lace Bark Elm trees are being transplanted to various locations around Greenville. Local landscaper Stephen Jones, a member of the ReLeaf Board of Directors, volunteered some of his services for the project. Jones is using a tree spade to dig the trees up and move them to their new homes.

Greenville has been named a Tree City, USA for nearly 25 years thanks in large part to the efforts of ReLeaf and its members. The non-profit organization was formed in 1990 to plant, promote, and protect canopy trees. In the years since then, they have contributed more than $229,000 to help the greening of Greenville, NC.
