Greenville is getting ready to groove to the sound of recording artist Vanessa Rubin. Rubin will be the featured performer at this year’s Carroll Dashiell Greenville Grooves Music Festival on Friday, May 22, at the Greenville Town Common Amphitheatre.

2015 Grooves“This will be the second year of the music festival, so bringing in someone of Vanessa Ruben’s stature is a big plus for us” said Community Development Director Merrill Flood. “This year is also a chance for us to recognize what Carroll Dashiell means to our community as well by naming the music festival for him.”

Dashiell is a bit of a musical superhero – heading up East Carolina University’s jazz program by day and an internationally-known jazz musician, producer, and recording artist who travels with his own band with a Motown review by night. He also helps to coordinate this festival.

“Carroll has done a lot to put Greenville on the map, musically,” said Flood. “He is known, liked, and respected by fellow artists around the world and is passing along some of the knowledge he picked up while playing with some of the jazz legends in his younger days. Even better, he’s just a great guy with tremendous talent and a big heart, so it’s nice to recognize him by naming the festival for him.”

The festival is a free concert which starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22. The Carroll Dashiell Greenville Grooves Music Festival is presented by the City of Greenville, the Pitt-Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Beasley Media Group’s KISS-FM, 107.9 WNCT-FM, and Beach Boogie & Blues.
