City Public Information Office Wins Communications Awards
The City of Greenville’s Public Information Office picked up four of the first North Carolina City & County Communicators (NC3C) Excellence In Communications Awards. Sixteen local government communications professionals from across the state were given the awards at the association’s second annual Spring Conference.
A total of 32 awards were presented in 10 categories. Categories included TV & Videos, Communication Technology, Special Events, Printed Publications, Most Creative Project for the Least Amount of Funds, Service Delivery, Marketing Tools, and Communications Plans.
Steve Hawley, Communications Manager & Public Information Officer for the City of Greenville, won first place for a printed brochure – the Greenville Recreation & Parks Recreation Guide. Hawley and Communications Technician Jonathan Edwards won first and second prizes in the TV/Video Regular Programming category for two episodes of cityscene, and a second prize for Special One-Time Programming for Bunkerz & Friendz (a video of our Fire-Rescue Education Clowns).
“I was surprised and extremely pleased,” said Hawley. “We were up against some terrific competition from people working in the largest cities in the state and some incredibly talented people. It’s nice to be recognized for our commitment to creating high-quality communications pieces to educate, inspire, and engage the citizens of Greenville by judges who are industry leaders across the country.”
Judges for the NC3C Excellence in Communications Awards are government communications professionals from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Texas and Virginia. Each judge had previously won first or second place in the national Savvy Awards, presented annually by the City-County Communications and Marketing Association.
NC3C members also elected Hawley Chairman of the organization for 2009-2010. Steve is a founding member of the organization and has served as Secretary and Vice-Chair.
The purpose of North Carolina City & County Communicators is to encourage professional development and networking among local government communications professionals. The organization was formed in March of 2007 by 27 professional communicators from around the state. Since then, the organization has grown to more than 70 members.
