City of Greenville, NC

The Public Works Department is composed of the following divisions: Engineering, Street Maintenance, Transit (Greenville Area Transit (GREAT), Sanitation, Fleet Maintenance, Inspections, Building & Grounds and Administration.  Through these divisions, the Public Works Department provides a host of services to our citizens.

In addition to the many services provided directly to the citizens, the Public Works Department develops and maintains the City's five-year Capital Improvement Program.  This program identifies the City's greatest capital needs and develops methods for funding the most critical projects which involves over $40 million of capital expenditures.

The Public Works Department currently has 182 employees dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure and appearance of the City.  The department's budget is in excess of $11 million, not including the approximate $40 million of capital expenditures for which the department is responsible. These funds come from local taxes, service fees, state gasoline tax revenues called the Powell Bill Fund and other state and federal grants.  Details of the services provided can be found under the links to each division of the Public Works Department or by clicking here for our "Resident Guide to Public Works Services".
