The City of Greenville seeks to foster a safe, inclusive, and economically stable community, and the realization of these goals begins with healthy neighborhoods, which create the foundation of a healthy city. Within each neighborhood, unique assets exist, which residents can use to better themselves, as well as Greenville as a whole.

The City of Greenville provides a variety of services to support residents as they address neighborhood concerns and build on their neighborhoods’ assets to pursue their individual goals.

First, Community Development staff connects neighborhoods and the city, connecting residents to city services and lending expertise to residents and neighborhood and homeowners’ associations. For more information, contact Seth Laughlin, Planner II (phone: 252.329.4486).

Second, the Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB)—a citizen-led board that welcomes participation from all neighborhoods—represents city-wide neighborhood issues to the Greenville City Council. The NAB also works directly with residents to understand these issues in greater detail; brings residents together to share information; and helps establish new neighborhood associations.

Third, the city established several programs to encourage neighborhood development, including Neighborhood Improvement Grants and Community Garden Leases.
