City Attorney's Office

The City Attorney provides legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Boards and Commissions, and City departments, and represents the City in court cases. This office also handles citizen inquiries regarding City ordinances. The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council.

City Clerk’s Office

The City Clerk is the keeper of all records of the City including ordinances, resolutions, minutes of City Council meetings, contracts, and other documents. The City Clerk’s Office also maintains a Talent Bank of citizens interested in being appointed to the boards and commissions. The City Clerk is appointed by the City Council.

City Manager’s Office

The City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer for the City. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City and the implementation of the policies established by the elected officials.  The City Manager is appointed by the City Council.

The Assistant City Manager supervises the Public Information Office and oversees the Financial Services, Information Technology, Recreation and Parks, and Human Resources Departments.
 

Financial Services

The Financial Services Department is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of the City’s income, expenses, and all financial transactions. The Financial Services functions include accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, investment management, debt management, business licenses, parking tickets, rescue billing and collection, as well as the City's budget and audit. This department also administers the Minority and Women's Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program for the City and Greenville Utilities Commission.  Financial Services has received national recognition for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 21 consecutive years.

Fire-Rescue

Fire/Rescue Chief Bill Ale (252) 329-4404 e-mail - bale@greenvillenc.gov 

The Fire/Rescue Department provides quick assistance to citizens from six strategically located stations.  The Department is staffed by professional career firefighters and emergency medical personnel.  Greenville Fire-Rescue is proud to be the only fire-based provider of Advanced Life Support transport services, at the paramedic level, within North Carolina. 

Human Resources

Information Technology

The Information Technology Department is responsible for developing and managing information and communication solutions for the City of Greenville. The department provides support for all computer systems, business applications, Geographic Information System (GIS) and communications systems including voice, radio and data as well as providing technical training.

Community Development

The Community Development Department manages current and strategic planning through zoning/rezoning applications, environmental concerns, greenways development, and historic preservation. The department also administers the Affordable Housing, Elderly Rehabilitation, and Down Payment Assistance Programs, and provides community and human relations services for citizens.

Police Department

The Greenville Police Department (GPD) focuses on the protection of lives and property; the provision of programs and services that foster community crime prevention awareness and participation; the repression and apprehension of offenders; the maintenance of public order; and the protection of the constitutional rights of all people. The Code Enforcement Division manages code enforcement of City Ordinances such as weeded lots, junked vehicles, and minimum housing standards. 

The Greenville Police Department is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency meeting the stringent standards of CALEA.

Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is responsible for traffic services, street maintenance, bus service; recycling and sanitation services, fleet management; engineering; and the upkeep of City buildings, grounds, and cemeteries. This department also handles building permits and construction inspections.

Recreation and Parks

The Recreation and Parks Department provides a variety of athletic, recreational, and arts and crafts activities for all ages and special populations. The department maintains over 20 parks and recreational facilities, including 4 gymnasiums, 8 recreation centers, a swimming pool, the Aquatics and Fitness Center, River Park North wildlife area, Bradford Creek Golf Course, Bradford Creek Soccer Complex, and River Birch Tennis Center.
