At any moment, an individual may suffer a sudden, life-threatening illness or traumatic injury requiring immediate medical attention. One out of every six people in Greenville required Emergency Medical Services (EMS) during the 2007 calendar year. Our EMS unit notification is primarily provided from the Pitt County Communications Center, triggered by a call to 9-1-1. Our EMS professionals are all credentialed by the State of North Carolina, and also undergo periodic local oral boards and practical evaluations administered by the staff of the Brody School of Medicine, Division of EMS. All of our ambulances and Advanced Life Support (ALS) fire engines are licensed by the North Carolina, Office of Emergency Medical Services.
EMS is a vital part of the protection provided to the citizens and guests of Greenville by the Greenville Fire & Rescue Department. Unfortunately, everyday there are several people in Greenville that experience an event requiring emergency medical care. Our staff of EMS professionals consist of well trained and experienced EMTs providing skilled and compassionate care. There are three levels of prehospital EMS care available in North Carolina: EMT-Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic. The Greenville Fire & Rescue Department is proud to provide it's customers with EMT-Paramedic level care on all of it's EMS units and ALS engines, which is the highest level of prehospital EMS care available in North Carolina.
