Chief William J. Anderson was appointed Chief of Police on June 5, 2006. Chief Anderson is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida. He retired on August 21, 1999 from the Daytona Police Department as a Police Commander after 20 years of service and has served as the Chief of Police for the City of Elizabeth City, North Carolina for two and a half years and DeLand, Florida for three and a half years.
Chief Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida and an Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from the Daytona Beach Community College now known as Daytona State College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 192nd Session, Quantico, Virginia.

Employees of the Greenville Police Department and their families have access to a chaplain through the G.P.D. Police Chaplain Program. The mission of the Police Chaplain is to provide a ministry of guidance and counseling to all members of the Department upon request. Guidance and counseling is provided in matters of spiritual, personal, family, health, employment, and financial matters. The Police Chaplains perform such duties as to contribute to the nurture and enhancement of members’ spiritual, personal, private, and professional lives.
The Greenville Police Department currently employs six Police Chaplains of various denominations to offer a personalized ministry to all of its employees.
