 What Is CRIME STOPPERS?

On September 1, 1983 local law enforcement agencies, with the cooperation of the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce, launched a county-wide crime-stopper program.  It is a program in which members of the community, the media, law enforcement agencies and businesses work together to solve crimes.

Citizens are encouraged through cash rewards and promise of anonymity to provide information leading to the arrest and indictment of criminals.

 Who Is Involved?

CRIME STOPPERS is an organization governed by a  board of directors.  We want our community to be a safe one, and we are willing to work to make it that way.

The CRIME STOPPERS board members are leaders in our community who have volunteered to dedicate their time and talents and are willing to fight crime in the Greenville/Pitt County area.  A trained coordinator has been appointed by the Greenville Police Department.

 How Does It Work?

Citizens are encouraged to call CRIME STOPPERS at (252) 758-7777 with information about any unsolved crimes.

The caller is given a code number so that confidentiality and anonymity are ensured.  Cash rewards up to $5,000.00 are given to callers for information leading to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property or drugs.

crime does not pay,

BUT CRIME
STOPPERS WILL!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Too often, people with vital information about crimes fail to contact police because they fear retaliation or because they don't want to testify in court. The result of this reluctance is that many criminals are still walking our streets.  Criminals rely on this fear and intimidation as a "grade school" bullying tactic to keep commnunity support of law enforcement at a minimum.

But, through CRIME STOPPERS, you do not have to give your name and you do not have to testify in court.

 Who Benefits?

All of us benefit.  A criminal who is taken from the mainstream of our community is not a threat to you, your children or your business.  And, in a community where citizens work together to solve crimes, the threat of swift, sure punishment serves as a strong deterrent to would-be criminals.  Also, do not fall victim to the reverse psychology of "you are a bad person for providing information to capture a criminal."  It is just the opposite.  By helping to take criminals off of our streets, you help out not only yourself, but also the entire community including thousands of innocent children, women, and men.  You are a great person for protecting the safety of innocent citizens and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

 How Else Can I Help?

CRIME STOPPERS is funded through donations from people like you - individuals, professional associations, corporations, retailers, civic and social groups.

CRIME STOPPERS' only purpose is to make your community a better and safer place to live, and we need your help to reach that goal.

Tax-deductible donations can be made to Pitt-Greenville Crime-Stoppers, Inc., PO Box 7207, Greenville, NC 27835
