Mission Statement

The Public Works Department is comprised of a group of professionals committed to providing Greenville residents with the highest level of customer service via a cost effective, efficient and environmentally responsible operation.  We preserve and maintain the City's infrastructure and natural resources for the benefit of our residents, businesses and visitors.

The Public Works Department is composed of the following divisions: Street & Stormwater Maintenance, Transit (Greenville Area Transit (GREAT), Sanitation, Fleet Maintenance, Building & Grounds, and Administration. Through these divisions, the Public Works Department provides a host of services to our citizens.

In addition to the many services provided directly to the citizens, the Public Works Department develops and maintains the City's five-year Capital Improvement Program. This program identifies the City's greatest capital needs and develops methods for funding the most critical projects which involves over $40 million of capital expenditures.

The Public Works Department is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure and appearance of the City.  The department's budget is in excess of $11 million, not including the approximate $40 million of capital expenditures for which the department is responsible. These funds come from local taxes, service fees, state gasoline tax revenues called the Powell Bill Fund and other state and federal grants. Details of the services provided can be found under the links to each division of the Public Works Department.

Sincerely,

Kevin Mulligan
Public Works Director
