Household Hazardous Waste Informational Facts

From day to day, we use some type of hazardous waste. Do you know how to properly dispose of this waste? Help is at your fingertips. This list is provided to better serve you -- the citizens of Greenville.

Used Motor Oil: Accepted at the Pitt County Transfer Station and all County Collection Centers. Must be oil only and maintained in a sturdy closed container. Call the Pitt County Landfill at 830-2599 for additional information.

Used Anti-freeze: Accepted at the Pitt County Transfer Station only. Must be anti-freeze only and maintained in a sturdy closed container. Call the Pitt County Landfill at 830-2599 for additional information.

Farm Chemical Jugs (HDPE containers): Accepted at the Pitt County Transfer Station and several County Collection Centers. Containers must be empty, rinsed thoroughly with high pressure, and labels removed. Call the Pitt County Landfill at 830-2599 for additional information.

Lead Acid Vehicle Batteries: Accepted at the Pitt County Transfer Station and all county Collection Centers. Vehicle batteries will only be collected by the City of Greenville during our annual Spring Clean Up. Call the City of Greenville Public Works Department at 329-4522 for additional information.

Household Batteries: Place in your regular refuse container for pick up by the City of Greenville Public Works Department.

Paint (solidified): Should be placed at curbside to be collected by the Public Works Department. Lids should be removed to assure thorough solidification.

 Fats/Oils/Greases: Do not pour into drain system. May be placed into container with tight fitting lid and placed in refuse container for pick up by the City of Greenville Public Works Department.

Pesticides/Herbicides: Information may be obtained from the Pitt County Cooperative Extension Service, 403 Government Circle, Greenville, N.C., 757-2801.

Other Hazadous Waste:The following items may be placed in your garbage can:

• Nail Polish (solidified)
• Oven Cleaner (lye based)
• Shoe Polish
