For additional information, please call (252) 329-4522
The Sanitation Division provides garbage and recycling collection to single family and multi-family residents as well as bulky trash collection and mosquito/rodent control. Landfill requirements mandate solid waste be separated into three types of collection: Bulky Trash, Garbage, and Recyclables. Bulky trash includes: large tree limbs cut 5 to 6 feet in length and no more than 4" in diameter; limbs, hedges, and bushes should be piled separately from other trash. Leaves, grass, pinestraw, and other fine vegetative material should be piled separately. All discarded furniture, boxes, paper, etc. should be piled separately for collection. All items for collection should be placed by the curbside as close to, but not in, the street as possible. These items are picked up separately as required by the Pitt County Landfill. For information concerning Pitt County Landfill, call (252) 902-3350.
Household garbage is collected once weekly from the back yard with a maximum of three (3) containers with tight fitting lids not to exceed 32 gallons. Optional front yard service using a City-approved roll-out cart is available. For information on how to obtain a City-approved roll-out cart, call (252) 329-4522.
Recycling is collected once weekly from the back yard with a maximum of three (3) containers not to exceed 32 gallons each with tight fitting lids. A City recycling decal must be placed on each container. These decals can be obtained from the Public Works Department at 1500 Beatty Street or contact us at (252) 329-4522 to request a decal(s) be mailed to you. Residents with curbside service must bring recycling containers to the curb on their scheduled service day. A City-approved roll-out cart may also be utilized for recycling but must still have a recycling decal affixed to the side of the cart and brought to curbside. At this time, recycling is not mandatory but strongly encouraged! Thank you residents for helping to save our environment.
