Buildings & Grounds Division
The Buildings & Grounds offers the following services:
The Buildings & Grounds Division has three major responsibilities within the Public Works Department; Buildings, Grounds and Cemeteries. The Buildings Section is responsible for facility maintenance of the City of Greenville buildings. Specifically, employees of this Section perform preventative maintenance of HVAC electrical, mechanical and safety related devices. In addition, this Section schedules and completes Work Requests from other departments citywide, executes facility moves, assists in setup of community events such as the International Festival, and installs holiday decorations in the Downtown area. The Grounds Section is responsible for vegetation management program of City properties. The responsibilities of this Section includes litter removal, mowing, mulching, fertilizing, planting and herbicide applications. The Grounds Section also maintains the rights-of-way trees within the City. This includes maintenance trimming, removal of hazardous trees and planting of all trees on the City Rights-of-way and Public Properties. The Building and Grounds Superintendent also is designated as the City Arborist, and enforces the Tree Ordinance. Cemetery Operations is the third major responsibility of the Buildings & Grounds Division and this is also managed by the Grounds Sections. The Grounds Section performs opening and closing of graves, niches, and crypts, the installations of markers, supervision of landscape maintenance performed by contractors at the two City Cemeteries, and the supervision of the landscape maintenance performed by the City staff at the other two City Cemeteries.

Brownhill Cemetery (10 acres) – Howell Street across the street from South Greenville Elementary School. There are no available graves for purchase in Brownhill Cemetery. |

Cherryhill Cemetery (5 acres) – Located at the corner of Second Street and Pitt Street. There are no available graves for purchase in Cherryhill Cemetery. |

Greenwood Cemetery (40 acres) – Located at the corner of Cemetery Road and Fifth Street. There are some multi gravesites available for purchase. Please call the Public Works Department at 329-4688 to verify availability, location and current costs of available sites. |

Homestead Memorial Gardens (30 acres) – Corner of NC33 and Portertown Road, 3 miles east of the 264 business (Greenville Boulevard). Homestead Memorial Gardens has numerous graves, crypts and niches available for purchase. Please call the Public Works Department at 329-4688 to verify availability, location and current costs of available sites. |
Other Buildings & Grounds Responsibilities: Adopt-A-Street Program – The City of Greenville began the Adopt-A-City-Street Program in 1989. Participants include schools, non-profit organizations, clubs, businesses and individuals. By participating in the Adopt-A-City-Street Program and donating a few hours of time per year, you can help make Greenville better and more beautiful.
