Greenville Gets Grant Paying For Swim Program For Underserved Children

A local church is working with the City of Greenville to ensure more kids learn to swim this summer. Power of His Presence Ministries will donate approximately $1500 for a swim program benefitting children enrolled in the Developing Positive Attributes Program. The swim program is hosted by the Recreation & Parks Department and is part of an ongoing effort to provide swim lessons to underserved populations.

“We have been amazed by this group’s generosity and concern for youth water safety,” stated Mike Godwin, Aquatics Supervisor. “We have a standing list of groups that would benefit from this type of program. The only obstacle has been and always will be funding.”

This is the second year the church has provided a swim grant donation to the City as it targets Youth Swimming Awareness during its annual Women’s Conference. A donation ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 AM at the Community Pool, located at 2113 Myrtle Avenue.
