National Association Recognizes City Staff for Excellence
Once again, the City of Greenville’s Financial Services Department has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Associ
ation (GFOA) with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award. City staff earned the award for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year.
“The Financial Services Department is honored to have received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting consistently for 23 years,” said Director of Financial Services Bernita Demery. “We are committed to excellence and are focused on providing more than what is minimally required in the delivery of service. This award is a demonstration of the department’s mission to set the standard for accurate and timely financial information illustrating continuous learning and improvement.”
The CAFR is a report of the audit of the previous Fiscal Year’s Financial Statement by an independent auditor and a comprehensive report that includes 10 years of statistical data. The GFOA gives the Certificate in recognition of the City’s meeting high standards of the program, demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
The Certificate is the Association’s highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals.
