City Celebrates Dedication of Lucille W. Gorham Intergenerational Center
More than 200 people filled the City Council Chambers and City Hall to celebrate the dedication of the Lucille W. Gorham Intergenerational Center.
Monday night’s ceremony celebrated the woman many people call “Mother Gorham.” Mrs. Gorham is a long-time resident of the Riverdale Community. She is known for her many years of service and dedication to the entire community both in and out of her position as Pastorate Associate at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.
The Center came to life after the City purchased the former St. Gabriel’s Church, School, Rectory, and Nunnery on West Fifth Street. The City then formed partnerships with East Carolina University, Pitt
Community College, and the Little Willie Center to provide much-needed services to the neighboring residents.
People can now go to the center for a wide variety of activities and educational opportunities ranging from child care to quilting, GED classes, training for convicts and even help finding them work, and much more.
