Welcome to the Stantonsburg Road/Tenth Street Connector (State
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Project U-3315)
website. You can find out the current status of
the project and upcoming meeting dates, review meeting minutes from
previous meetings, and find out how to contact the project team with a
comment, concern, or question. This project is intended to connect the intersection of Stantonsburg Road and Memorial Drive with the intersection of Tenth Street and Dickinson Avenue. A critical piece of this project will be to include a separation of the CSX Railroad and Tenth Street so citizens traveling along Tenth Street can do so without being stopped by a train. The study will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of Tenth Street going over or under the railroad. The general boundaries for this project are from W. Fifth Street Drive on the north to the railroad on the south and from Moye Boulevard on the west to Evans Street on the east. Click here for a map of the study area. The study and design phase of the project includes data collection, public involvement, a Community Impact Assessment, an Environmental Assessment, and design. Data to be collected includes socioeconomic, historic, and community data, as well as information on physical elements such as railroads, streets, and utilities. The study and design process for this project is anticipated to take 3-4 years. Construction will start no earlier than 2012, assuming that no unexpected delays are encountered. Our consulting team, Kimley-Horn and Associates, is a national firm based in Cary, North Carolina. They have planners, engineers, environmental professionals, and landscape architects working side-by-side to tackle transportation challenges. They will assist the City of Greenville, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, East Carolina University, and Pitt County Memorial Hospital in completing the study and design of this project. Current Status Since the January 2006 public workshops, the Consultant team has been collecting information on existing conditions, studying the options suggested by the public, and developing additional options based on an engineering process. The most recent public workshop occurred on January 30, 2007. Citizen input was gathered regarding options to carry forward for additional study. The Consultant Team has developed a purpose and need statement for this project and is ready to narrow down the options based on existing conditions (such as traffic requirements, historic resources, and natural resources) and adopted land use plans. |
