GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the City of Greenville has earned the Government Financial Officers Association's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.

Released in December 2017, the City of Greenville PAFR is a 24-page document that breaks down the City's finances for the 2016-17 fiscal year in a user-friendly format. The GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards of preparation of state and local government popular reports. In order to receive the award, a government unit must publish a PAFR with contents that conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal. The award is valid for a period of one year. This is the second time that the City of Greenville has published a PAFR, and the City has earned the GFOA Award each time.

Reviewers of the PAFR commented favorably on the design and layout of Greenville's report, noting that the graphics and artwork were appealing and innovative. Reviewers also commented that the report contains a variety of useful information that allows readers to gain a greater understanding of the City, such as demographics, population, unemployment rates, major industries, and major employers. Reviewers also commended the City for the distribution of the report online and in public places.

"This is one of the more eye-catching documents prepared for the public," the reviewers said.

The PAFR was designed by Aaron Hines of the City's Public Information Office. He worked closely with Assistant City Manager Michael Cowin, Financial Services Director Byron Hayes, and Budget Analyst Shelley Leach on compiling the information that was included. Staff was recognized by the City Council during its August 9, 2018 meeting.

An electronic version of the PAFR is available HERE. Hard copies of the report are available at City Hall, 200 West Fifth Street.
