GREENVILLE, N.C. — Greenville Fire/Rescue is hosting an Accreditation Workshop this week through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, CPSE. Representatives from other departments, both around the country and locally, traveled to Greenville for the three-day course which helps prepare agencies for accreditation.Fire Rescue Accreditation

Agency accreditation is a voluntary process of self-assessment. Only 258 accredited agencies exist in the world, and Greenville Fire/Rescue is on track to add its name to the list. GFR began its journey towards accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, CFAI, just over three years ago. Members of the department will go before the commission in March of this year for the final phase of approval before becoming an accredited agency.

There are a total of 29 people attending the course at the Greenville Emergency Operations Center. Attendees include members from departments from across the United States – from as far away as California, Tennessee, and Virginia, and as close as New Bern, Cary, and Jacksonville, North Carolina. They will gain knowledge about the process of accreditation, how to create specialized documents like a Standards of Cover, and perform a community risk assessment.
