CHICAGO — The City of Greenville has once again earned the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, a reflection of the commitment of staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.GFOA Budget Award

This was the 14th consecutive time that the City has won the award, which recognized the City's current biennial budget for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2018.

In order to receive the award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:

  • a policy document
  • a financial plan
  • an operations guide
  • a communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), founded in 1906, represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association's more than 20,000 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions. GFOA's mission is to advance excellence in state and local government financial management.
