Work will begin this week to convert the portion of Cotanche Street between East Fifth Street and Reade Circle from one-way to two-way traffic. This change is expected to go live on Friday, July 12, 2019.

This change is being made to offset the coming closure of the intersection of Reade Circle and Evans Street. That closure will remain in place for several weeks, and the conversion of Cotanche Street to two-way traffic is a way to maintain a north/south roadway into the Uptown district. 

The conversion of Cotanche Street will also coincide with the reopening of East Fifth Street, which has been closed since late February. East Fifth Street is expected to be reopened by July 19.

Work this week to complete this conversion will include the adjustment of a signal head at the intersection of Cotanche Street and East Fifth Street, as well as the removal of signs and/or pavement markings conflicting with the new traffic pattern. New signage and pavement markings are being installed to further help ease this change, and a lane shift is being implemented on Cotanche Street between East Fourth and East Fifth Streets, reducing that stretch from two southbound lanes to one.
