City of Greenville City Clerk Carol Barwick announced recently that she plans to retire after nearly 40 years in local government.

Barwick's last day working with the City of Greenville, where she has worked since June of 2010, will be September 6, 2019. Her official retirement date will be October 1, 2019.

"It has been a pleasure to serve citizens for nearly four decades in local government, and the past nine years in Greenville have been a great way to close it out," Barwick said. "I have had the pleasure of working alongside so many great people while performing a variety of jobs during my career, and I am grateful for all of my experiences."

Barwick began her career in local government with the City of Kinston's Public Works Department in 1979 where she served in a variety of administrative roles until May of 2001. While working for the department, she obtained a BS in Business Administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College and an MS in Administration from Central Michigan University.

In May of 2001, Barwick accepted a promotion to City Clerk for the City of Kinston. She earned a designation as a Certified Municipal Clerk in 2003. She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks (NCAMC) for which she has served on the Membership Committee, the Finance Committee, the MORE Manual Committee, and as the District IV Director.

The City of Greenville City Council has not yet determined who will take over for Barwick on a permanent or interim basis.
