Greenville means business, and the city has proven it once again by naming the latest Small Business Plan Competition winners.

Truly Yours and Nucleus Uptown, a pair of businesses in the Uptown District, each earned $10,000 in the competition that provides annual grants for a business in the Center City and/or West Greenville redevelopment areas. The winners were selected by the City's Redevelopment Commission.

According to its website, Truly Yours, located at 403 Evans Street, offers fabulous and trendy clothing at an affordable price to all young women, whether small town or big city. 

 

"We are honored and so excited to have been chosen as a grant recipient," Truly Yours Owner Erin Davis said. "This grant money makes such a huge impact for small businesses like mine. With the money, we were able to help cover recent expansion expenses. We recently moved locations within the Uptown District and were able to double our square footage. This makes a huge difference in the service we can provide for our customers and the amount of product we can offer them."

 

"The small business grant is a tremendous opportunity for Nucleus Uptown," Dalyai said. "This grant enables our entrepreneurial hub and office space to provide top of the line resources to small businesses and entrepreneurs of Eastern North Carolina in our community. We plan to expand our services and facility in offering a "phone booth", private meeting space, programs with business and thought leaders from RTP, professional sound paneling, and local artistic collaboration towards interior and exterior murals."

 

Since its start in 2008, the City has incentivized 42 businesses through the Small Business Plan Competition. The competition is open to for-profit businesses with a tangible net worth that does not exceed $7.5 million. Examples of eligible use of grant funding include: working capital or operating funds, purchase of equipment, improvements to owner-occupied property, leasehold improvements, and the expansion of business services or products.
