In 2009, the Greenville Recreation and parks Department completed a Capital Needs Assessment Analysis (CNA) of the South Greenville Recreation Center and Park as part of its system wide assessment of park facilities. The City held a series of meetings with community leaders and the general public to gain input on proposed renovations. Using public input as a basis, a master plan was completed in 2010. The final master plan was adopted in 2014.
Recommendations from the master plan included renovations to the gymnasium, the demolition and reconstruction of the remainder of the facility using the existing footprint, and a 2,200 square foot building expansion that would provide office space and multipurpose rooms.
In early 2015, the City entered into a contract for professional architectural and engineering services with Hite Associates, P.C. in early 2015 to complete the construction documents for the South Greenville Recreation Center, using the approved master plan as a basis. The construction documents and bidding phase of the project were completed in late 2015, and Stocks & Taylor Construction, Inc. was awarded the construction contract.
