City Manager Barbara Lipscomb has removed the Interim from his title; Eric Griffin is now Greenville’s new Fire-RescueEric Griffin Chief. Griffin has been serving as the Interim since the departure of Bill Ale.

“Eric has come up through the ranks and worked very hard to prepare himself for this promotion,” said Lipscomb. “He did a very good job as Interim Chief and I am confident he is the right person to lead Fire-Rescue in the future. He is a great example that sometimes the best candidate for a job is found within your organization.”

He is a graduate of the Department of Homeland Security National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program as well as Grand Canyon University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Leadership with an emphasis on Executive Fire Service Management. Chief Griffin earned his A.A.S. in Emergency Medical Service from Wilson Technical College, and his B.S. in Business Management from Shaw University.

Griffin said, “I am very proud and humbled to be chosen to continue to lead this professional group of men and women. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to continue to promote excellence in the delivery of emergency and non-emergency services in collaboration with all of the members of Greenville Fire-Rescue.”

Chief Griffin started with Greenville Fire-Rescue in 1993 and worked his way up to eventually become Deputy Chief in 2011. He has served as Interim Chief since March 2013. His appointment becomes effective on Monday, December 8, 2014, with a salary of $124,000.
