City Wins Another Award For Its Budget

Post Date:01/31/2013

For the fourth year in a row, the City of Greenville has been recognized for achieving excellence in budgeting. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Greenville its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its biennial budget document.

“Being honored with this award once again for our biennial budget is a great accomplishment and demonstrates the dedication and exceptional service provided by the City Council, professional administration, and staff,” said Financial Services Director Bernita Demery. “The ability to work as a team and produce such outstanding results on a consistent basis contributes to the positive growth, progress, and prominence of Greenville.”

The award represents a significant achievement by the City government. It reflects the commitment of the City Council, City Manager, and City staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, a government must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

This year’s award was presented to Financial Services Director Bernita Demery and the entire Financial Services Department. Financial Services has also earned GFOA’s highest award for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Demery said, “It’s an honor to be recognized for an award of such high prestige, one which represents the highest standard of excellence that we, the City of Greenville government, strive for each and every day.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals.
