New HR Director Named

Greenville City Manager Barbara Lipscomb has promoted Leah Futrell to the position of Director of Human Resources. Futrell is the City’s Human Resources Manager, but has been serving as the Interim Director of Human Resources since October of 2012.

“Leah has done an outstanding job as Interim Director,” said Lipscomb. “We have a number of large projects she has been involved with, including updating our HR policies, improving workforce training, and negotiating our health plans. I believe she will continue to do an outstanding, professional job handling the challenges we face related to recruitment, development, and retention of our employees.”

Futrell said, “I am humbled to have been appointed to lead the Department during this period of transformation.  The support that I have received during my interim assignment has been tremendous, and I am privileged to work with such talented professionals.  I look forward to great things to come.” 

Leah served in Human Resources positions in the private sector for 14 years prior to coming to work for the City nine years ago. She earned both a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA from East Carolina University. She is also a graduate of the UNC School of Government’s Municipal Administration Course and a Certified Human Resources Professional.

Futrell will officially start in the position on Monday, October 7, at a salary of $99,923.
