City Wins Finance Award...AGAIN!

Post Date:09/04/2013

It’s nearly a quarter of a century now. The City of Greenville’s Financial Services Department has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 24th year in a row with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award. City staff earned the award for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the 2011-2012 Fiscal Year.

“24 consecutive years of being awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is truly a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the City and the employees of the Financial Services Department,” said Director of Financial Services Bernita Demery. “Teamwork is the fuel that drives this team to success year after year.”

The CAFR is a report of the audit of the previous Fiscal Year’s Financial Statement by an independent auditor and a comprehensive report that includes 10 years of statistical data. The GFOA gives the Certificate in recognition of the City’s meeting high standards of the program, demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Certificate is the Association’s highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
