Interim Assistant City Manager Chris Padgett Named Assistant City Manager

Post Date:04/15/2013

City Manager Barbara Lipscomb has removed the Interim from his title and named Chris Padgett as Assistant City Manager. Padgett was the City’s Chief Planner but has been serving as Interim Assistant City Manager since October of 2012.

“Chris is a solid professional who understands what this City needs and how to help move our city forward,” said Lipscomb. “We work very well together. His knowledge and experience are tremendous assets to our organization and community. He has proven himself to me as a trusted and competent administrator over the past five months, and I expect he will continue to do so for years to come.”

Working for the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager has administrative responsibility and oversight of the Recreation and Parks, Financial Services, Human Resources, and Information Technology Departments, as well as the Public Information Office.  The City Manager oversees the City Manager’s Office, Police, Fire-Rescue, Public Works, and Community Development Departments.

Padgett was one of three finalists for the position after Lipscomb opened a national search for candidates. He takes over the position which was vacated by Thom Moton, who moved to the City Manager’s position in Broken Arrow, OK.

Prior to coming to work for Greenville, Padgett was the Assistant Town Manager for the Town of Ayden. A graduate of East Carolina University with a Master of Public Administration, Chris has more than 14 years of public service, having worked for other communities in North Carolina, Indiana, and Kentucky.

Padgett’s appointment begins Monday, April 15, at a base salary of $119,454.
