Proudly Serving with the Highest ISO Classification

At Greenville Fire/Rescue (GFR), our top priority is keeping the community safe. Since 2025, GFR has proudly obtained a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO)—the highest possible classification awarded to fire departments across the country.ISO Class 1 Logo

What is ISO?

The ISO evaluates fire departments nationwide based on how well they protect their communities. This comprehensive assessment looks at:

  • Emergency communication systems –including 911 dispatch operations
  • Fire protection capabilities – such as staffing levels, training, equipment and station locations
  • Water supply – including hydrant conditions water availability, and system maintenance
  • Community risk reduction – from fire prevention codes to public education and outreach programs

This process is both rigorous and highly selective. Only a small percentage of departments nationwide earn a Class 1 rating.

What Does This Mean for Our Community?

An ISO Class 1 rating isn’t just a badge of honor—it brings real benefits to the residents and businesses of Greenville:

  • Lower Insurance Premiums
Lower ISO ratings are one of the factors considered when establishing insurance premiums, saving money for homeowners and business owners alike.
  • Stronger Community Safety
A Class 1 rating reflects a high-performing department with proven capabilities to respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Commitment to Excellence
This rating reflects the hard work and dedication of our firefighters, leadership and city partners who consistently strive for the highest standards in training, service and care.
