What is the process if I receive a ticket and my vehicle was towed?
The Parking Ticket cannot be appealed through the normal process if a towing has occurred. The Offender will have to appeal the towing at the Pitt County Magistrate's Office. If the Magistrate rules in favor of the offender, contact Code Enforcement at (252) 329-4237 to complete the appeals process.

What should I do if I think my vehicle has been towed?
Call the Greenville Police Department at (252) 329-4315 immediately. They will be able to inform you if your vehicle has been towed. You must first come to the Police Department before you can claim your car at the tow yard unless your vehicle was towed by a private contractor, from a private property.

Is it legal for residents to paint curbs?
City maintenance crews must do all curb painting. It is illegal for residents to paint anything within the public right-of-way. To request repainting of a faded curb, submit a Street Division Service Request. To request new curb painting, contact Traffic Engineering at (252) 329-4522 or submit a request through City Compass.

How do I appeal a parking citation?
To contest a charge: appeal forms are available on this site, Financial Services Department or the Greenville Police Department. Citations for incidents involving the towing of a vehicle cannot utilize this procedure. If your vehicle has been towed, you are required to request a tow hearing at the Pitt County Magistrate's Office located at 124 New Hope Road Greenville, NC 27834. AN APPEAL MUST BE FILED WITHIN 72 HOURS OF THE ISSUANCE OF THE CITATION. All fees will be stayed as-is during the appeal period. Click here for more information and instructions to appeal online.

What is the maximum length of time I can park my vehicle on the street without moving it?
Vehicles cannot be parked or stored on a public street for long periods of time. Storage of a vehicle is considered to be a vehicle in excess of 72 hours without being moved. Vehicles stored longer than 72 hours are subject to being towed or cited. If you are parking on the street in the paid parking areas of the Uptown District, there is a 3-hour maximum time limit.

How close to the curb must I be to park legally?
All vehicles parking parallel to the curb must park within 12 inches.

I received a ticket for parking in a handicap space and I have a valid handicap placard. What should I do?
Mail the ticket, with a copy of your placard and /or the registration card, to the City of Greenville - Collections Division, P.O. Box 7207, Greenville, NC 27835-7207. You may also bring your ticket, placard, and registration to City Hall, 200 West Fifth Street.

I received a notice but I've already put my payment in the payment box?
The payment box is emptied on a daily basis. If you put your payment in the payment box and have received a notice, contact the Collections Division at (252) 329-4448 for assistance.

What if someone else was driving my vehicle and received a parking ticket?
Because you are the registered tag owner, you are responsible for parking tickets issued to your vehicle, regardless of whom you gave permission to drive your vehicle. You, the registered tag owner are responsible for paying all parking fines issued to your vehicle.

What should I do if I misplaced my parking ticket?
Contact the Collections Division at (252) 329-4448 with your license tag number or your name for retrieval of your ticket information.

How much is the late payment penalty for my parking ticket?
- If the face amount of your ticket is: ($20.00)
- The penalty is $15.00 after the 10th and 30th days: Maximum payment $50.00
- If the face amount of your ticket is: ($50.00)
- The penalty is $15.00 after the 10th and 30th days: Maximum payment $80.00
- If the face amount of your ticket is: ($100.00)
- The penalty is $50.00 after the 10th, 30th and 60th days: Maximum payment $250.00

What are the enforcement hours for parking?
Parking enforcement for on-street and surface lot parking in the Uptown District is 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What is the cost for on-street parking in the Downtown District?
There is no cost for on-street parking in the downtown area. However, there is a 2-hour maximum time limit for on-street parking between Washington Street and Evans Street.

What is the cost for surface lot parking in the Downtown District?
The cost of surface lot parking is free in the downtown area with the exception of the Fourth Street Parking Garage. Additionally, there is a 2-hour maximum time for parking in the Blount-Harvey and the Chico's parking lot.

What parking options are available for downtown residents?
There are seven surface parking lots throughout the downtown area and one parking garage. The city provides a couple of residential parking options to meet the unique needs of its downtown residents, allowing for the acquisition of reserved or unreserved parking spots.
Reserved Space Parking
- Assigned designated space in close proximity to a downtown residence
- One lease per downtown resident
- Annual ($840) or 6-month ($420) lease terms

What parking options are available for employees or employers in the Downtown District?
The City offers the use of surface lot spaces (excluding the parking garage) for employers and employees of the downtown area. These permit holders will utilize unreserved spaces for which a decal will be provided by the City.
Employers may purchase up to 10 permits, while employees may purchase one permit. Five plate numbers can be assigned to each employer permit, and decals will be provided to each employee.
