City Ordinance

The City of Greenville has adopted an ordinance to establish safety regulations for public or private clubs. The ordinance became effective May 1, 2010. It was amended May 9, 2013.

The managers/owners of the clubs should use the attached form to submit information to the police department concerning the training of their bouncers. This form is due quarterly as specified below:

  • Jan-Mar due April 15
  • Apr-Jun due July 15
  • Jul-Sep due October 15
  • Oct-Dec due January 15

The clubs are also responsible for obtaining criminal record checks within 30 days of employment and annually for each bouncer. These can be obtained from the Office of the Clerk of Court or you can use third party vendors as long as these requirements are met: 1) Be accredited by the Better Business Bureau and 2) Have an A-plus rating See https://www.bbb.org/search.

The Greenville Police Department is offering bi-monthly training for security personnel that are “bouncers” employed within the Greenville city limits. The training is required within 90 days of the bouncer’s employment and every two years. You can access the calendar to check the dates and times training is offered on the City calendar. The classes are held at the Greenville Police Department, 500 S. Greene St., in training rooms A & B.

To schedule your employees for a class please call 252.329.4897 or email alarms@greenvillenc.gov. Provide the names of the employees and the nightclub name.
