GREENVILLE, N.C. - As the Tar River waters continue to rise, Greenville Police have closed the Town Common and the City's greenways. The closures are effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice.
The orders are in accordance with the authority given to Greenville Police by the State of Emergency proclamation issued by Mayor Allen Thomas. Police Chief Mark Holtzman said the closures were necessary to ensure the safety of residents who have been visiting the areas to view rising flood waters.
Additionally, the City has added the Moyewood neighborhood to its list of voluntary evacuation areas. Residents in the Moyewood area are asked to be observant of conditions and evacuations are recommended.
