Post Date:09/08/2016 11:24 AM
The City of Greenville will host its first Down East Farmers Market on Saturday, September 10, from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM at Five Points Plaza located on the corner of Evans Street and Fifth Street. The market will be held weekly each Saturday at the same time and location.b712d4a5-b51c-4120-a74a-7b9bccc3224d

Representatives from the Coalition for Healthier Eating will be offering sustainably grown food items such as meats, poultry, vegetables, fruit, and more. The market will accept SNAP/EBT, debit, and major credit cards.

"The Coalition for Healthier Eating feels quite strongly that every Greenville citizen, regardless of where they reside, should have the ability to obtain locally produced foods at an affordable cost," Coalition for Healthier Eating Executive Director Maxine White said. "Food can be the healer for many of our illnesses and the Coalition's mission is to ensure that it does its part to prevent and/or eradicate critical illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and strokes. This market will assist citizens who are unable to get to Pitt County's Farmers Market, and make available produce, fruits, meats, and poultry."

Items for the market will be purchased from the Down East Fresh cooperative and non-cooperative farmers. For more information about the market, contact Maxine White at 252.215.5661 or maxinew@c4healthiereating.org.
