GREENVILLE, N.C. - Some Greenville residents and business owners have been cleared to return to their homes after Mayor Allen Thomas reduced some of the mandatory evacuation areas Friday evening.

The following neighborhoods and areas have been removed from the evacuation zones and can return immediately:
  • Santree Mobile Home Park
  • Areas north of Pactolus Highway including Country Squire Estates
  • Areas north of West Belvoir Road including Paul Drive and Hop Tyson
  • Greenfield Terrace neighborhood
  • Areas north of Belvoir Highway
  • Cypress Glen Retirement Community

A map of the new evacuation zones is available by clicking here.

Another area that will be cleared to return will be announced Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Checkpoints will continue to be posted outside of some restricted areas, and a curfew remains in effect in the updated mandatory evacuation areas. As part of the curfew, enforcement actions may take place in mandatory evacuation zones. This is to ensure the safety of the citizens of Greenville, as well as the safety of emergency personnel. Anyone wishing to enter a residential evacuation zone must go through one of four stationary checkpoints. The checkpoints will be set up along First Street at the following cross streets until further notice:
  •          Avery Street
  •          Woodlawn Street
  •          Elm Street
  •          Warren Street
The only individuals who will be granted access to residential areas within the evacuation zones are residents, property owners or licensed contractors with a legitimate reason for entry. These individuals will only be allowed in the residential areas during daytime hours, as long as the roads remain passable.

Those wishing to gain access must be able to show proper identification, paperwork, and/or proof of residency. Anyone who is found to be in a residential evacuation zone without the permission of a law enforcement officer is subject to being charged with a class 2 misdemeanor.
