Newest Section of Greenway Officially Opens

Post Date:12/01/2023 10:02 AM

The City of Greenville now offers nearly nine miles of greenway trails after opening the newest section of the South Tar River Greenway on Thursday.

The 0.8-mile extension, which runs from the western terminus of the existing greenway near the Town Common to Nash Street in West Greenville, is the next piece in the City's efforts to provide alternative transportation connectivity between the City's urban core, medical district, and university community.

"Greenways provide a variety of benefits that affect a city’s economic, environmental, and social health, and we are thrilled to be expanding ours today," Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly said.

A trailhead for the new section of greenway is located near Fairfax Avenue. As part of the ongoing BUILD project, the latest section of greenway will eventually cross under Memorial Drive and connect with the Veterans Clinic at Moye Boulevard.
