Environmental Grants

Registration for EAC Grants Now Open

Post Date:02/02/2015 11:51 AM

Schools and youth-oriented organizations who want to start projects or conduct programs dealing with water quality are encouraged to apply for the Greenville Environmental Advisory Commission’s 2015 Grants.

The 2015 grants support citizen activity in stormwater management and are open to any kindergarten through 12th grade school group or youth organization (such as a Parent-Teacher Organization, science club, 4H club, scout troop, etc.) with a project within Greenville city limits.

“If you want to change the world,” said EAC Vice Chair Mike Behm, “you have to start with children. When children learn things and bring that information home, the parents learn it too.”

The EAC is looking to fund projects that will minimize the effects of non-point source pollution. There are many different types of projects you can initiate on your property or throughout your organization. Most projects are structural and prevent water pollution by capturing polluted runoff and treating or detaining it. Other projects may take the form of education, awareness, or good housekeeping measures. Examples of projects include (but are not limited to):

• Install stormwater control measure. EAC Grant Pic
• Repair erosion caused by runoff.
• Install rain barrels for water reuse.

Youth organizations must apply for the funds by March 20, 2015, and act as the fiscally responsible party. Youth organizations may apply for multiple grants; however, these projects will compete against each other for funding. Depending on the size of the projects, several grants may be awarded.
