Thousands flocked to the Greenville Town Common on New Year's Eve to welcome 2020 with live music and the City of Greenville's first Emerald Drop Countdown.
The event, organized by the City and the Greenville Jaycees, attracted approximately 2,500 people who enjoyed live music by The Dickens, marshmallow roasting, multiple food and drink vendors, a green screen photo booth, and the drop of a custom-made glass emerald at midnight. Fireworks followed the emerald drop to send attendees off into the new year with a bang.
Proceeds from the event were donated by the Greenville Jaycees to the Third Street Education Center. Non-profits interested in being considered for the proceeds from next year's event can find an application here.
Local sponsors helped make everything possible, and organizers say they are looking forward to making the celebration an annual event.
