Greenville Honored for Financial Excellence

Post Date:10/09/2024 11:55 AM

Another year, and another award has been presented to the City of Greenville for its financial reporting.

For the 34th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Greenville for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which include demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

"As a City, it is our responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer money, and our financial reporting is one way that we are transparent in doing so," City Manager Michael Cowin said. "I continue to be impressed with the efforts of our Financial Services Department, and I appreciate the Governors Finance Officers Association for its continued recognition."

The Governors Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 20,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. For more information about the GFOA, visit GFOA.org.
