City of Greenville staff from the Neighborhood and Business Services Department closed out the month of April with its annual celebration of National Community Development Week, a time to highlight the impact of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) CDBG and HOME programs.
As part of this week's celebration, City staff participated in a variety of activities. The week began with a kickoff luncheon on Monday, April 21, at City Hall. The luncheon included citizens, program staff, partnering organizations, and beneficiaries gathering to showcase programs supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
On Tuesday, a general contractor's workshop was held to inform general contractors about the requirements for bidding on new construction and housing rehabilitation projects with the Community Development Division. The next day, City staff led an Annual Action Plan public meeting to gather feedback on investments in community development, affordable housing, and homelessness assistance programs across the city.
Neighborhood and Business Services staff volunteered their time to give back to the community on Thursday, April 24. The day allowed staff to help with a variety of needs at the Pitt County Council on Aging and Community Crossroads.
The week concluded with a Down Payment Assistance Lunch and Learn event designed to educate potential homeowners on the home buying process through programs offered by our department. City staff provided information about down payment assistance, housing affordability, and different programs offered for first-time homebuyers.
