GREENVILLE, N.C. — An advocate for preservation and neighborhood revitalization and former City Council member was honored on Friday as the City dedicated and renamed one of its parks for her.
The newly-named Inez N. Fridley River’s Edge Park, formerly known as River’s Edge Park, was the site of Friday's ceremony that included City representatives and numerous members of the Tar River/University Neighborhood. The City Council officially approved the request to rename the park in November 2024, following an application submitted by Maury York on behalf of the Tar River/University Neighborhood Association (TRUNA).
The renaming serves as a tribute to Fridley’s significant contributions during her tenure as a City Council member from 1985 to 2001. During her service, she was a dedicated liaison to numerous commissions, including the Greenville Utilities Commission and the Recreation and Parks Commission. River’s Edge Park is an especially fitting memorial because it reflects several of Fridley’s key passions, including the preservation of the Tar River Watershed, her dedication to neighborhood revitalization, and the establishment of the city’s greenway system.
